Scones of the Year 2014
Posted on

Happy New Year everyone and welcome to Scones of the Year. It's now 12 months since I started Scones of the Month and today I'm announcing my top 10 favourite places to have scones in London in 2014. It's been a difficult dilemma as there are really so many wonderful places to chose from however these are some of my personal favourites, in no particular order, although I have saved my overall favourite to the last. Enjoy...Cocomaya Fabulously tasty scones, very cute venue but it was the accompaniment of their wonderful strawberry jam with large pieces of fruit that really made the visit stand out for me. (visited February)
An all round wonderful scone eating experience as their delicious scones were served warm, just out of the oven and came with generous portions of jam and cream. (visited August)
Maison Bertaux
This fabulous French patisserie is a Soho institution, a real London insiders place, with marvellous home made baked goods, with bags of personality and laid back atmosphere this is one of my favourite tearooms in London. (visited November)
Bill’s, Islington
This is small but growing chain and on my visit to their Islington branch their scones had a melt in your month texture, with a subtle almond flavour they were definitely one of my best scone experiences for the year. (visited May)
This is the second year running that the Ampersand has featured in Scones of the Year and I visited twice this year, again another very reliable all rounder for great food, service and I especially love the hotel's quirky contemporary decor. (visited March and July)
Burridge’s Tearooms, Torquay
My next choice is Burridge's in Torquay which had the most amazing flavoured scones of the entire year. During my visits I enjoyed partaking of their daily specials of Lemon, White Chocolate and Cranberry, Raspberry and White Chocolate and Maple and Pecan. Scone Heaven! (visited September)
BB Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour
I'm already a big fan of BB Bakery in Covent Garden so I knew that the food on their Afternoon Tea Bus Tour was going to be excellent and eating scones while seeing the capital's sights in an iconic Routemaster bus gets my vote for the most fun/ quirky afternoon tea in London. (visited October)
Langham Hotel
The Langham gets my vote for the most luxurious tea and scones this year. It was wonderful. The venue is opulent, the service was exceptional, food was delicious and what really stood out was the presentation and it was a very nice touch that the drinks came with a plate of shortbread biscuits. (visited April)
The Wolseley gets my vote as my favourite afternoon tea venue for 2014. The restaurant has the wow factor and was originally built as a car show room. The food and service are both exceptional and as a real added bonus it's very well priced compared to some of the luxury hotels nearby. Fabulous! (visited March)
Fleet River Bakery
Last but by no means least is the Fleet River Bakery. Their fruit scone contained cranberries and had the most amazing flavour. It was really so tasty, and even though it was served with fresh cream and not my preferred clotted cream I have to say it really was exceptional. The Fleet was my favourite Scone of the Year. (visited July)
Thank you friends for joining me (IRL or virtually) on this scone quest, however there is much more work to do in the coming year and I hope you will continue to enjoy Scones of the Month in 2015.
Until next time...
