Historic Whitechapel: Medics, Maladies and Marvellous Nurses - Guided Walk for Centre of the Cell

Medical History Walk

 Friday 8th August 2014 (13.00 - 15.00)

We are delighted to be working with Centre of the Cell to offer a medical Whitechapel walk.

Join a qualified London Guide to explore Whitechapel’s fascinating medical history, focusing on the rich heritage of the Royal London Hospital, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry and the people connected with the area. Find out more about Joseph Merrick, better known as the Elephant Man, nurse Edith Cavell and the history of the hospital and medical school.

The event will start with a Pod show inside Centre of the Cell’s cell-shaped Pod, suspended over the laboratories of the Blizard Institute. Once inside, you will learn about the amazing world of cells, the human body and the latest medical research. You can try your hand at virtual experiments, heal extensive virtual burns and have your cells counted. You also get to see real body parts and diagnose cancer using high-power microscopes.

This will be followed by the guided walk and an opportunity to visit the Royal London Hospital Museum.

Friday 8th August 13:00 - 15:00
