Christmas Day in London
Posted on
Have you ever wondered what London is like on Christmas Day? Well on the big day London virtually shuts down, as there is no public transport the city is a lot quieter and almost everywhere is closed. Today was the first time I’ve explored London on Christmas Day, the weather was quite mild and it was a beautiful day for a walk. Here are a few photos...
Oxford Street
I started my walk along Oxford Street as I was curious to see how one of the world's busiest shopping streets would look on Christmas Day. There were a few more people about than I expected and a handful of the tourist shops were open. What I found a little unnerving was the the absence of noise and the lack of traffic, especially the buses.

Liberty
One of the nicest things was being able to look at the beautiful architecture without the crowds I especially enjoyed admiring Liberty's mock Tudor frontage.

Hamleys - The first "large crowd" I came across

Without the crowds it was nice to admire the beautiful curve of Regent Street

Leicester Square - from this angle it looks empty

The day ended with a visit to St Paul's Cathedral for Evensong.
I hope everyone has had a nice Christmas Day. My morning started with the news of a family bereavement. I know I am not the only one to have found getting through today difficult and so I would like to dedicate this blog post to all those who have found today a struggle and to wish you all better time ahead. Happy Christmas everyone!
