Le Pain Quotidien

Brioche & Scone Baking class* - Photo marked * are by kind permission of Le Pain Quotidien

Soho is renowned for its legendary and fun nightlife and last week twitter friends and I went to explore  its latest attraction... Le Pain Quotidien’s Brioche & Scone Baking class!

Le Pain Quotidien

On arrival all your ingredients is ready for you

When I arrived at the Wardour Street branch  I was feeling a little apprehensive about "public baking" as the table was laid out at the rear of the restaurant. I strategically chose my place at the table so I wouldn't be facing the customers. However I can honestly say the atmosphere was warm, welcoming and supportive and the class had only just started when I began to relax and dare I admit it publically on my blog I totally enjoyed the baking.

Making Brioche *

The other great thing about the evening is that all the hard work work is done for you as when you arrive, everything is already prepared and the ingredients is already measured out and there's no clearing away or washing up to do afterwards. It really is baking made easy, trust me as someone who hasn't baked since school days #retro.

 Didier, pastry chef & tutor*

Didier and the other staff really made the evening memorable and fun. There were clear explainations of what to do it and lots of encouragement. Everyone got chatting to their neighbours and we met Jenny who ended up coming on one of my guided walks a few days after.

The rewards of our evening - delicious, home made scones warm & fresh from the oven*

The time just flew by and before you knew it we were all eating our scones. This was the only time there was a lull in the conversation.

My scone with my favourite Blondie, Belgian white chocolate spread, tasted unbelievably so good

I have to say I was utterly amazed at just how delicious my baking was.

Alain Coumont,  masterchef & LPQ founder, inspecting my brioche*

Alain Coumont made a surprise appearance at our class as he was in London to receive the Golden Bridge Award at the Belgium Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, and brought in our brioches. He chatted with the group and even inspected my baking!

My legendary Giant Scone - it took me two days to eat it

It was such a fabulous night and I loved the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It was great to try out something new and a little bit different with friends and I'd certainly recommend it. Our class was just the 2nd one they've heldat LPQ’s Wardour Street branch and more classes are planned in the New Year. Please note participants must be 18 years or older.

Hey, would you mind posting the scones recipe from Le pain quotidien? Thanks! Guided Walks in London replied: I'm sorry I don't have the recipe but maybe you could contact LPQ directly and they maybe able to assist you.
