The Art of Brick - A Lego Art Exhibition? Yes, I saw it in Brussels & it's so Cool
Posted on
The Art of Brick, the first art exhibition to exclusively focus on Lego, is opening later this week in London. It is on from Friday 26 September until Sunday 4 January 2015. In March this year, I went to see the exhibition when it was Brussels and thought you'd might like a sneak preview of the sort of things you may see in London.
All the pieces have been created by Nathan Sawaya, an American artist. The photo above depicts a sculpture called "Yellow" and is typical of some of the creative, contemporary pieces on display.
It also great fun seeing many famous and popular works of art made out of Lego bricks. Where the original art work can be seen in London I have included a link.

The Art of Brick - Brussels Stock Exchange
Earlier this year I joined a few twitter folk on a day trip to Brussels to see the Art of Brick exhibition. At the time we didn't know it was going to open in London but it provided the perfect excuse (non needed) to visit our dear friend Valy and eat cake.
The exhibition was held in the Brussels Stock Exchange, a really impressive and beautiful building and featured over 60 works of art. However the London exhibition will be even bigger as it will be displaying over 80 pieces. Below I've posted some of my favourite photos.

Royal Palace of Brussels still under construction
On entering the building the first thing we saw was the Royal Palace of Brussels still under construction. I adore minature buildings and I hope the new exhibition includes some of London's iconic landmarks. I also loved their Lego brick themed wallpaper!

Polar Bear
At first glance this monochrome polar bear appears quite simple in it's design, however on closer inspection one can see the detail that has gone into creating its shape.

The Scream by Edvard Munch

Discobolus
Although the bronze original is lost there is a marble copy in the British Museum.

My Boy

The Arnolfini Wedding by Van Eyck
This was one of my favourites and the original can be seen in the National Gallery.

Hands

Bayeux Tapestry

Think

David by Michelangelo

Gray

American Gothic by Grant Wood

Jimi Hendrix

The Kiss by Gustav Klimt

Manneken Pis - well we were in Brussels!
The exhibition is clever and creative, it's fab and fun and is there is something there for everyone to enjoy.
