Cakehole Cafe - Cream Teas served with Vintage Style
Posted on

In my endeavours to enjoy some of the best scones in London, this week I was delighted to visit Cakehole Cafe, the vintage style tearoom, on Columbia Road. The only dilema was deciding what to eat!

Cakehole Cafe is located inside Vintage Heaven which is next door to The Birdcage pub. It's just one of a number of original & quirky shops in the area. To find out more about the Columbia Road have a look at my previous blog post about the area.

The cafe is located in the rear of the shop and to be honest I was pleasantly distracted with the wide assortment of 1920s to 1970s china and kitchenware as I made my way through. It's a great place to pick up a retro tea set or a single item.

The cafe is self service, so you order and pay for your food at the counter and when it's ready it is brought over to your table.

There are three large tables which quickly get filled up on a Sunday when the Flower Market is on. I therefore suggest doing what I did and visiting on a Saturday when it is quieter and there is more time to relax.

I loved the eclectic decor and the glass cabinet beautifully displaying their homemade cakes.

A nice touch is that the cake labels are all made from Scrabble letters.

The cream tea I had consisted of two scones served warm, I chose one plain and one fruit, accompanied by very generous portions of both raspberry jam and clotted cream. The price of a cream tea, at time of writing is £6.50 and includes an individual pot of English breakfast tea.
My visit to Cakehole Cafe was great fun, the scones were delicious and I adored the quirky decor. I'm now compiling "My Scones of the Year" blog which I will post on New Year's Eve, so check back and see if Cakehole Cafe makes it into my Top Ten list.
